Imports 101

 

  • In the class you will learn the basics about importing into the United States, from start to finish. This class is essential to all new importers as they are required to understand and properly execute importing in compliance with US Customs regulations.  Taking this class shows your due diligence in meeting this requirement.

 

  • This is a great opportunity for individuals involved in importing, customs brokerage, freight forwarding, warehousing and distribution and others to expand their knowledge or get a strong fundamental understanding of the import process and the compliance issues that may entail.

 

  • For industry employers it is a vauable tool to provide a well rounded basic training for your new employees in the import business or those that just need a better understanding of importing processes.  Trusting that your employees are knowledgeable in how to handle your imports is a comfort to the business owner.

 

  • Class materials will be provided.

 

  • A workshop session will also be part of the class, to get a hands on experience with the process.

 

  • Morning and Afternoon snacks will be provided, lunch is not included.

The parties involved in importing; importers, suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, Government Agencies, and more

The roles and responsiblities of the parties

The terms of sale and the impact of those terms on the flow of the import shipment

U.S. Customs and other U.S. Government Agencies rules and regulations

The risks and responsibilities of a U.S. importer

The importantance of due diligence and reasonable care

The Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and duty rates
