Since the first event Zandermania has grown in size and reputation, originally fished on the fantastic Gloucester and Sharpness Shipping Canal in Gloucestershire. The canal is a little over 16 miles in length with an average depth of 12 foot the quality of the Zander fishing is on a par with anything else available in the country. Over the years we have had several large Zander caught during competitions up to 14.5lb.
In 2022 Zandermania returned but with a difference!
We managed to book Grafham Water for 11th and 12th June 2022. This is the same weekend as Perchmania was held in 2021, we were amazed at the numbers of Zander that were caught in the shallows, we tried to keep track on the numbers of double figure fish caught over the 2 days and it was in excess of 30! As they were mainly in the shallows there were no problems with barrotrauma etc. so all fish were returned safely. Full 2 days of competition now from boats and kayaks with camping, Saturday evening catering and of course some absolutely fantastic sponsors!! The 2022 event was a huge success, selling out in under 24 hours!!
Fantastic news... following the continued success in 2023 where we saw record breaking numbers of Zander, over 100metres caught by the end of Day 1, average size of over 70cm then Day 2 produced the longest Zander of the event at a whopping 87cm!!!
We are delighted to announce that we will return to Grafham Water in 2024 on the 8th and 9th June with a limit of 50 teams of two competing as pairs to be crowned Zandermania champions!!! As well as 30 Kayak places competing for the 2024 Zandermania Kayak Champion!!
