Monday, 3 August 2020 9:00 AM - Monday, 31 August 2020 3:00 PM PST

It's our annual Directors' Retreat, now in your own home or office!  Over the course of the week you'll have an opportunity to hear from some outstanding speakers, representatives from DCYF and Office of Head Start, policymakers and more.

We set up our agenda with current events at top of mind - how do Head Start, ECEAP and Early Head Start programs meet the many challenges of COVID-19 for our families and staff?  How do we address the real issues of racial inequity and bias in our communities?  How can we influence policymakers and agency decisionmaking to support our important work with the families most affected by current events?

This year's Directors' Retreat will have two sessions per day (9-11am, 1-3pm), every day for the week.  We will also record everything except the Regional Office if you need to miss a session or two, and those sessions will be available for a month.  We've put together a great agenda based on your feedback:

Monday 9-11:30AM

We have an amazing panel!

  • Deborah Northern, Seattle Public Schools Equity & Engagement Manager

Thursday 9-11am

Jeff Utecht, Re-Imagining Preschool

Jeff Utecht, an internationally acclaimed educator and author, will provide a framework for shifting your early learning program from center-based to distance learning.  Jeff provided professional development for over 5,000 teachers in Washington in “moving schools online”.  His intentionally designed structure supports high-quality distance learning for the teacher, the child and the parent and is appropriate for Head Start and ECEAP as well as K-12.  Our programs are likely to be offering remote services to many famlies 0-5 through the 2020-21 school year due to COVID, and developing an effective framework and approach to make it engaging and work for both staff and families will be critical.

This session will have STARS credit attached, and is also available as a stand-alone training if you would like additional staff to attend.  Registration for additional staff available at https://bit.ly/utechtprek
