Constitution Hill, 11 Kotze St, Johannesburg, Gauteng, 2017, South Africa.

The Africa Tourism Association (ATA) will host the World Tourism Conference (WTC) 22-26 July 2019 at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, South Africa. The conference will highlight the emerging business and investment opportunities across Africa’s tourism sector. The conference will show how tourism can be utilized as an engine for economic growth and job creation through disruptive business models and strategies, leveraging creative industries and culture, emerging technologies, capacity building, and building strategic partnerships. The conference will also provide a platform to connect, network and explore new tourism markets and products.

The first African Resilience Summit (July 24) is being provided as a part of the Africa Tourism Association’s annual World to Africa Congress in Johannesburg.  Aside from being a glorious travel destination, South Africa copes with challenges derived from societal issues, yet the country is always striving to find new ways to address and manage the unique concerns of both country and continent.  The day curated by the Resilience Council will focus on recovery and resiliency initiatives, the critical nature of crisis communications and preparedness.  Despite the many crises that are ever present on the continent, this Summit will attempt to step back, resist the “continental blur” and recognize the need for the economic driver of tourism and what elements can be utilized to minimize crisis impact and build in resiliency.

Africa Tourism Association

The Africa Tourism Association (ATA) is the leading global trade association promoting travel and tourism to Africa and strengthening intra-Africa partnerships. ATA serves both the public and private sectors of the international travel and tourism industry. ATA membership comprises African governments, their tourism ministers, tourism bureaus and boards, airlines, cruise lines, hotels, resorts, front-line travel sellers and providers, tour operators and travel agents, and affiliated industries. ATA partners with the African Union Commission (AU) to promote the sustainable development of tourism to and across Africa. ATA’s annual events in Africa and the United States bring together industry leaders to shape Africa’s tourism agenda. ATA has partnered with Jacobs Media Group through the Global Travel and Tourism Resilience Council (GTTRC). The GTTRC was created following the success of the International Travel and Tourism Crisis Management Summit, which hosted its first event in London in 2016. ITCMS grew from 2016, becoming a yearly event and paving the way for regional efforts that started with the Resilience Through Tourism Summit, held in Amman, Jordan in 2018. These events provide benefits for all sectors of the travel and tourism industry, ranging from aviation to tour operators and destinations, providing valuable real-time advice and information through comprehensive partnership programmes. The goal of the RC is to engage with not only the corporate travel and tour
