The ADA at 32: What Social Workers Need to Know About the Americans with Disabilities Act

This Community Conversation is being presented free for social workers, their clients, and the general public.  It is not CEU eligible.

Disabilities advocate, Dr. Jacqueline “Jackee” Jackson, D.MIN, MDIV, MSW, joins NASW-NJ & DE for this Community Conversation reflecting on 32 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The conversation will highlight what social workers need to know about the ADA and how to accommodate their clients with various disabilities. Dr. Jackson will also discuss how social workers can help end disability discrimination by advocating for people with disabilities on both the micro and macro levels. She’ll also share how social workers can help their clients advocate for themselves and/or find the appropriate resources they need.

Doctor Jacqueline Jackson, earned her Doctor of Ministry (DMIN) degree at The New Brunswick Theological Seminary where she also earned her Masters of Divinity (MDIV) degree. Additionally, she has a Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree from The Graduate School of Social Work at Rutgers University and a Bachelors of Arts (BA) in Africana Studies, also from Rutgers University. She is a “Voice for the Voiceless” and a strong well-known advocate in New Jersey and is passionate about restoring the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Jackson have conducted accessibility tours around the state of New Jersey with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (MS) and challenged clergy, elected officials, other leaders and brave souls of the community to use manual wheelchairs to experience the life of people with disabilities in an inaccessible community. Jackson has been instrumental with her advocacy efforts by lobbying on the local level, the state level in Trenton and on the federal level in Washington DC. Jackson has visited the White House and has personally met President Obama. She has received many awards for making churches, seminaries, colleges and communities accessible and she was the “State of New Jersey Social Worker of the Year” in 2010 and the “National Social Worker of the Year” in 2011.
