We live in a hectic, stressed-out world, with mental health problems at epidemic proportions. Covid-19 has only made things worse, leaving many people searching desperately for a way forward. So, we need to take a step back and review the whole of our lives, because the different domains of life are interconnected, and pressure on one area affects all the others.
The Well Person Course explores both those individual spheres (physical, mental/emotional, relational and spiritual), investigating the things that make for wellness or unwellness; and seeks to draw the parts together, to discover how we can life a whole, joined up life.
In the taster session, we ask some questions: what does it mean to be “well”? Who is well in our society? What does the well-lived life look like anyway, and how do I become more well?
The World Health Organisation defines health as a “state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. So, wellbeing has to do with the whole person, not just our bodies; and it is a real, tangible thing, not something you end up with when there’s no disease.
So, what is this health, this wellbeing? And how do we discover it? That is what the taster is all about…
