Event Abstract
Heathrow Air Traffic Control (ATC) and the story of January 17 2008, which saw the crash of the British Airways Boeing 777-200 BA38.
In this RAeS Heathrow Branch webinar, the guest speaker, Adam Spink, was the Control Tower Supervisor at the time of the crash of BA38. Adam will give an introduction to Heathrow ATC and how it sits within some of the busiest and most complex airspace in the world.
The story of January 17 2008 will then be described, highlight some human factors issues from both ATC and flight crew. The moment of the crash and the ATC reaction will be explained along with what happened next and how ATC and the airport coped with its consequences.
