Take the “Best Online Course of 2018”, with 3 exclusive live video sessions with the Princeton professor, only at PAUK!

What sets us apart, and brings us together, as humans? How can we live up to our humanity? Human Odyssey to Political Existentialism (HOPE) is a journey into the human condition and its politics, turning to existentialism for guidance. The course spans 12 themes: human/nature, identity & authenticity, freedom, reflection, happiness, death & dread, meaning, morality, truth & trust, God & religion, alienation & love, and finally – hope. Each is discussed through the dual dimensions of the personal/universal and the sociopolitical.

HOPE is a richly interdisciplinary course: anchored in political science and philosophy, it draws on history, sociology, psychology, and economy – synthesizing theoretical insights with empirical findings, both vintage and novel. It employs richly-layered, broadcast-quality imagery, replete with art, film, music, culture, science, and lots of dry humour. The first few minutes give us King Solomon, the US Constitution, the painter Edward Hopper, and the opening bars of “Smoke on the Water”. It’s like nothing you have ever seen. Uriel Abulof is a research fellow at Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School and Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination, and at Hebrew University's Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace.

Only at PAUK can you get 3 sessions in central London (with audiolink for those outside London), at which Prof Abulof himself will join us via live video, answering our questions on his lectures. We will each view the lectures at our convenience, on the edX website. The course is 9 lessons, which we spread over 3 months. With the edX app, you can download the videos for watching offline. You don’t have to watch all the lectures to come to the video sessions – you already have your degree.

PAUK received the Innovation Award from the Princeton Alumni Council, for our new series of “Virtual Full-Semester Seminars with Princeton professors, combining taped and live video”. This program is a real revolution in alumni education. HOPE is viewed by people around the world, but only we have our own private course.
