Dr. Roni Collazo has over twenty years of experience teaching in public and private, non-profit and for-profit, associate, baccalaureate, and graduate nursing programs. She moved from the classroom and clinical environment into nursing education leadership and found that concepts that led to success for her students also led to success in nursing program development. By providing structure and leadership, she has been able to assist struggling programs to improve NCLEX pass rates, achieve compliance with regulatory bodies, become integral components of their educational institution, and grow to serve their surrounding communities. Dr. Collazo is active in state and national nursing organizations, as well as service projects.
Dr. Catanzaro is the Director of the Online RN-to-BSN program at Washburn University School of Nursing in Topeka, Kansas. She earned a Doctorate in Education specializing in Online Learning and Educational Technology from Northcentral University, an MSN from University of Missouri, Kansas City, and a BSN from St. Louis University. In addition, she is certified as an online instructor and instructional designer. Dr. Catanzaro’s clinical work history includes the areas of medical-surgical, cardiovascular, operating and recovery room nursing. Dr. Catanzaro has taught at the undergraduate and graduate level both on-ground and online. Dr. Catanzaro is an Editorial Board Member for the Online Journal of Distance Education Administration and a Certified Peer Reviewer for Quality Matters. In addition, she is the owner of Catanzaro Consulting and works with nurse educators on best practice in online teaching and learning.
Nancy Barker, Ed.D., MSN, RN, CHSE is a nurse educator with 25 years of face to face and online teaching experience in diploma, accelerated second-degree, traditional baccalaureate nursing programs. Currently, Dr. Barker teaches class and clinical experiences as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at West Chester University of Pennsylvania in the prelicensure nursing program. Dr. Barker is also very involved in simulation activities at the University. Research interests include quality care of the chronically ill older adult, best practices for student learning, and innovative nursing education strategies
Michelle Kaulback, EdD, RN, FNP-BC is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Kaulback has 17 years of experience in higher education with a focus in pharmacology, medical-surgical and critical care nursing. Her academic experience includes teaching senior nursing students in both the didactic and clinical settings. Research focus includes lifelong learning, active learning strategies, and student support towards NCLEX success.
Danielle Yocom, DNP, RN, FNP-BC is a nurse educator with 13 years of face to face and online teaching experience in diploma, accelerated second-degree, traditional baccalaureate, and graduate nursing programs. Currently, Dr. Yocom teaches class and clinical experiences as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at West Chester University of Pennsylvania in the prelicensure nursing program. Research interests include quality care of the chronically ill older adult, digital storytelling, and innovative nursing education strategies.
Dr. Thomas is a Professor and Simulation & Clinical Skills Laboratory Faculty at West Chester University in Pennsylvania. She has used simulation teaching/learning methods for over 13 years and developed two undergraduate simulation-based elective courses. In her role as simulation faculty at West Chester University, Dr. Thomas designs and implements simulations at several levels in the undergraduate programs and mentors healthcare faculty in simulation modalities. She is a 2014 alumni of NLN Leadership Development for Simulation Educators. She conducts faculty development workshops on the topic of simulation best practices locally and nationally for the NLN and Laerdal Medical. Dr. Thomas is a member of INACSL, SSH, and ASPE. Her recent research investigates suspension of disbelief and simulation effect on new graduate transition to the professional role.
Jeanette Peterson, MSN-Ed, RN, CNE, CHSE, VA-BC is currently the Program Director for nursing continuing education in the Department of Nursing at Gateway Community College in Phoenix, Arizona. Mrs. Peterson has extensive experience in implementing experiential learning strategies in service learning, online instructional design, and simulation. Her academic experience includes curriculum development for licensed professionals. In addition, she has taught didactic, clinical, and simulation for undergraduate BSN and ADN nursing students.
Le Peterson Borman, MSN-Ed, RN, CHSE, is currently employed as residential faculty and Simulation Manager for the 18th St. campus and of Gateway Community College in Phoenix, Arizona. Ms. Borman has over 11 years of experience as a healthcare simulation educator where she developed and facilitated simulation instruction and training for physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical professionals. She has collaborated with physician teams in developing simulation content, strategies and 360 VR team training videos for Maternal Fetal Medicine and Critical Care Conferences. Academic experiences include both clinical and classroom instruction for The University of Arizona and Maricopa Community Colleges.

In response to the COVID pandemic, nursing faculty designed and implemented virtual nursing telehealth simulations. The telehealth simulation was utilized in several nursing courses at multiple levels. The simulation director collaborated with junior and senior-level nursing faculty to develop a virtual simulation while maintaining standards of best practice. This session will review strategies to develop, implement and refine the process of engaging students in a virtual nursing simulation.
