Edgewater Yacht Club is hosting a US Sailing Sanctioned International Offshore Safety at Sea Seminar with Hands On Training in 2022.

In person course work with hands on training will take place April 30th and May 1st, 2022 at Edgewater Yacht Club in Cleveland, OH and at nearby Cleveland State University. Training will include safety and seamanship suitable for inshore and offshore racing and cruising sailors as well as power boaters.

This course complies with ISAF Guidelines as well as World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival Course guidelines and includes a certificate.

Chuck Hawley
Primary Moderator

Chuck served as the Chairman of the Safety at Sea Committee of US Sailing from 2011 to 2017 and has moderated over 80 Safety at Sea Courses in the past 20 years. He co-authored the Safety at Sea handbook, as well as being the creator of the online Safety at Sea course. He is an active sailor, having logged over 40,000 miles on a variety of sail and power craft, including six transoceanic passages.

Cheryl is a co-founder of Kinetic Adventure Medical Education, Kinetic Medical Consultants, and Koa Sailing School. She is a retired USAF flight surgeon, having provided care in austere environments on every continent including three deployments to Antarctica. She served as the University of Texas Medical Branch Aerospace Medicine Residency Program director where she trained future NASA flight surgeons. She is a scuba instructor, a sailing instructor, and holds a US Coast Guard Captain’s license. She has a Diploma in Mountain Medicine and a Diploma in Diving and Marine Medicine from the Wilderness Medical Society.

He also served as the Chief of the Aerospace Medical Education Division at the FAA's Civil Aerospace Medical Institute where he was responsible for FAA survival training programs. He is a scuba instructor, a sailing instructor, and holds a private pilot's license and a US Coast Guard Captain’s license. He holds a Diploma in Mountain Medicine and a Diploma in Diving and Marine Medicine from the Wilderness Medical Society.
