Advanced Technology Centre, ATC210, University of Newcastle, Callaghan, NSW, 2308, Australia.

Join us on the United Nations International Day for Disaster Reduction (DRR) to learn about the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and its relationship to the United Nations 2030 Development Agenda.

The workshop begins with a brief summary of the development of the DRR agenda, highlighting the advances in thinking in relation to hazards and vulnerability, consequent risks and their mitigation.

It stresses the inherent wastefulness, both human and economic, of failing to mitigate and then successfully manage the effects of extreme events, and presents the framework within which a systematic approach to DRR can be planned, implemented, and improved.

The workshop concludes with a brief assessment that reinforces understanding of the key points associated with the Sendai Framework and DRR.
