Dear Community Member,
The ACA Transport Working Group started up in late 2012. Meetings for this Group were mainly held monthly in Whittlesea Council offices. The Group became heavily involved in the Access Denied campaign which pushed for the O'Herns Road interchange with the Hume Freeway and for the rail extension to Mernda - both of which have won state government commitment. The Group had also been involved with campaigning for improved local bus services which resulted in the 575 bus route being replaced by 3 bus routes (356, 357 and 358).Traffic in the Epping North/Wollert area has steadily worsened with the rising population, continuing to miss out on needed accompanying infrastructure. Campaigning is still needed on old, new and changing transport issues, especially:
The Transport Working Group has become largely inactive since late 2015. Unfortunately governments, who are not taking urban planning seriously enough, can interpret such campaign inactivity as meaning that local residents are not particularly concerned about local transport problems. Hence there is limited government attention to buses on the new routes being increasingly slowed by road congestion. Diminished support for a rail line extension is being camouflaged by the possibility of a delaying “temporary fix” rapid transit bus service and a required wait to start until well after the Metro rail tunnel is completed. There is a need to revive the Transport Working Group and for it to campaign forcefully and effectively. If you are passionate or frustrated about the local transport and can contribute tothe group in any way, we would love to meet you.
