The Wilderness Challenge is a 4-day horsemanship event held in the Superior National Forest of Northern Minnesota over Labor Day weekend September 1st-4th 2017.
The Challenge is a fun competition designed to help you step out of your comfort zone on the trail, and gain confidence in your relationship with your horse and within yourself. Jack uses his unique blend of dressage methods, natural horsemanship and old-fashioned horse-sense to teach riders the skills needed to navigate the trail safely.
Riders are divided into teams of four. Each team is accompanied by a guide who will lead them through the games and tasks that are set up on the trail. The mornings are spent practicing the challenges in horse camp where Jack explains the rules, and helps riders prepare to go out on the trail in the afternoon.
The afternoons are spent on the trail playing games, accomplishing tasks, and competing for points. The clinic ends with a small competition. The winning team receives a prize belt buckle, and all riders receive a certificate of completion. The challenge is held at the Okontoe campground off of the Gunflint Trail. The rustic environment is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Boundary waters area only 30 minutes from the Canadian border. Delicious meals are provided and served in the dining hall at the camp. Riders can choose to stay in bunkhouse style cabins or at the horse camp. The Wilderness Challenge is a great way to rejuvenate your horsemanship! It is open to beginner and advanced riders who will all benefit from this unique learning opportunity.
