According to the American Cancer Society, more than 4 million US women with a history of invasive breast cancer were alive on January 1, 2022. Since breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis in women, social workers in both medical and community-based settings and any level of social work will benefit from learning about this topic. Social workers are an integral part of caring for the psychosocial, emotional, and practical needs of women with breast cancer and their families. This presentation will provide an overview of social work with patients with breast cancer from point of diagnosis, survivorship, and end of life.
