The Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis Antiracism Committee invites you to an event with guest speaker, Fanny Brewster, Ph.D., MFA, for a discussion on a Jungian perspective on race, including “archetypal energies,” the “collective unconscious” and “our unconscious shadowed selves”

The Psychology of Racism and Our Racial Complexes

Saturday December 5, 2020, 1:00-2:00 PM

Details

It would seem that gently is our best way to enter through a Jungian psychology door, crossing the threshold for a discussion of racial complexes. As our collective engages and struggles with issues of pandemic mortality, political violence and intense racial relations, we are all affected in the most profound ways. Talking with one another, a hallmark of depth psychology, has always been a path to considerations of healing and wholeness.  It can also teach us more about compassion as we begin to understand the human narrative of those we consider “Other.”

Let us talk to one another in a way that opens our hearts, our deeper selves connected to personal racial complexes, and archetypal energies. Let us spend time together investigating what we may need and yet fear to learn, engaging our ego and our unconscious shadowed selves, and understanding our fears in service of deepening consciousness.
