Opioid Treatment Providers of Georgia Conference 2021
Neil Campbell is a passionate and effective advocate for addiction prevention and treatment and recovery services. She serves as the Executive Director of the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse (GCSA), a non-profit organization that builds community collaborations to reduce the impact of addiction in our communities through education, advocacy, and training. Neil holds a B.S. from Bowling Green State University in Criminal Justice/Corrections and a M.S. from Florida State University in Criminology. Her professional career began in law enforcement and adult corrections in 1982, and she focused her efforts on juvenile justice beginning in 1990 through 2004. She joined Georgia’s Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Addictive Diseases as the state’s first Director of the Office of Addictive Diseases in January, 2005. As the Single State Authority for addiction services funding, she administered all federal block grant and state-appropriated dollars in Georgia targeted for substance abuse treatment. Ms. Campbell’s current emphasis is to impact public policy through a recovery-positive legislative agenda, promoting recovery- oriented systems of care and increasing the peer recovery workforce. She is a person in long-term recovery and works every day to ensure that the voice of the lived recovery experience is heard. Neil serves as Southeast Regional Representative for the Faces & Voices of Recovery National Advisory Board and in her capacity at GCSA, has provided technical assistance and training on the development of peer based recovery support to local communities in several states. She is committed to and is passionate about growing Georgia’s recovery communities.
Ed Johnson obtained a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Counseling from the Citadel. Since March 2010, Ed has worked as a Program Manager for the Southeast Addiction Technology Transfer Center (SATTC) located at the National Center for Primary Care, Morehouse School of Medicine. He worked in the field of addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery for over twenty-five years in both front-line and supervisory positions, eighteen of which were with individuals with opioid use disorders. He has provided numerous trainings throughout the Southeast on addiction prevention, treatment and recovery related topics. He is currently credentialed / licensed as a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC), a Certified Addictions Counselor (CACII), and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
Marie Sutton is the founder and CEO of Imagine Hope Inc. Over the span of a 30-year career in behavioral health Marie has directed a 52 bed inpatient substance abuse program, launched a youth drop in center in "the bluff”, served on the board of Atlanta Harm Reduction and managed Early Intervention Services on behalf of DBHDD. For the past 2 decades her work has focused on the intersection of substance use, HIV and Hepatitis C. Most recently in partnership with Gilead Sciences and DBHDD she marshalled resources to bring hepatitis c screening and linkage services to MAT and traditional substance use programs across Georgia. She has a passion for finding creative solutions to difficult problems and for overcoming barriers to care.
