About the Event

The Office of Academic Initiatives and Strategic Innovation at The Graduate Center is delighted to present the internationally-acclaimed Music from Copland House ensemble – hailed by The New Yorkeras “bold,” “adventurous,” and “superb” – in a provocative new concert series where America’s musical past and future meet. With a unique focus on a century of American musical creativity and imagination, explored within broad historical and societal contexts, these programs offer ear-opening discoveries and surprising cultural journeys. Bringing “all the richness of its offerings” (The New York Times), Music from Copland House’s concerts feature World and New York Premieres, revivals of American classics, brand new pieces written especially for Copland House’s coveted CULTIVATE emerging composers institute, and programs inspired by identity and assimilation, the intersection of music and visual arts, and real, imagined, or spiritual journeys through sound and time. The ensemble will also invite doctoral students from the Music Department at The Graduate Center to perform with the ensemble at several of these concerts. The series takes place in the handsome, acoustically-superb Elebash Recital Hall at The Graduate Center in the heart of Manhattan.
