A Workshop with Rodney J. Benson, Ph.D., ACT

Please join The Depression & Anxiety Specialty Clinic of Chicago (DASC) and Northwestern University in welcoming Dr. Rodney J. Benson, Executive Director of DASC-Chicago and Assistant Professor of Psychology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, as he presents “The Essentials of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Getting a Solid Foundation in Empirically-Supported Strategies.” This highly interactive workshop provides a thorough introduction to CBT conceptualization and techniques, the common factors in evidence-based therapies, and how the elements work together. From the basics of cognitive and behavioral theory to the integrated features of modern unified systems of cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based therapies, attendees will become familiar with what the empirically-supported treatment literature has to offer. This is the introduction to CBT fundamentals that many professionals wish they had gotten earlier. It makes the complex concepts in CBT accessible and ready to be implemented in your practice, and attendees will have the chance to practice the skills and techniques with the support and guidance of a CBT expert. This workshop is designed to prepare attendees-and serves as a prerequisite for-more advanced CBT workshops offered by DASC-Chicago and Northwestern University.

The Depression and Anxiety Specialty Clinic of Chicago was founded in 2005 after it became apparent that there was a significant shortage of quality Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) available in Chicago. Many people with treatable disorders, such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Social Anxiety and Major Depressive Disorder were suffering needlessly because they could not access quality care. It has been the mission of DASC to address this shortage by providing services to those suffering and also offering training opportunities to other professionals to increase the availability of CBT. DASC has a highly-trained clinical staff specializing in using and teaching CBT.
