As we celebrate 200 years of the savings bank model in Austria, we understand that providing savings accounts to citizens in times of fast transformation in the 19th century was as audacious as it proved sustainable. ERSTE Foundation started as a social business. The savings bank model was inclusive in scope and conservative in risk. It turned into a pillar of the European model of empowerment and wellbeing of the many.

How can we realise a holistic concept of prosperity for all today? What will be private and what will be public goods, services, institutions but also responsibilities? How can we lead the profound transformations ahead of us – regarding climate, technology, and the way we live together – and get those transformations right? Which new alliances of responsibility can we forge, starting next Monday? How can we initiate, improve, transfer, foster or scale promising ideas or good first practice between public, private and civic agents for change? Audacity of initiative is what we now need.

At the Think Camp, you will explore hands-on approaches to the question of future prosperity with a focus on Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe. You will participate in small group sessions led by renowned pioneers, practitioners, experts and leaders on aspects of or approaches to prosperity. Among them are Beate Littig, head of the Socio-Ecological Transformation division at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna; Florin Jianu, president of Romania’s National Council of Small and Medium Enterprises; Charlotte Ruhe, Managing Director for CEE at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London; Alida Vracic, director of a Sarajevo-based think tank and currently Europe’s Futures Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna; and Thomas Wieser, former Eurogroup coordinator.

The Think Camp takes place in English (without interpretation) and following the Chatham House Rule. Proceedings are facilitated. No specific preparations are required.
