Topic:  FIDIC in practice

This seminar considers the legal and practical aspects of setting up and managing a FIDIC contract as the engineer or employer’s representative.  Consideration is given to the key contract data, instructions, variations, extensions of time, financial claims, determinations and clause 20 claims as well as avoiding disputes.  The meaning and structure of the key clauses of the FIDIC form are considered, against the realities of an on-going construction project and practical tips are provided.  The new 2016 release of the FIDIC terms is also considered.

·      An appreciation of the importance of accurate contract data and fundamental issues in establishing a contract.

·      Identifying the importance of following the mechanics of the FIDIC contract with regards to extension of time provisions

·      The importance of notices, the distinction between notices that are mandatory and those that are merely directory
