The Special Operations Training Association of the Upper Midwest would like to introduce its Team Leader Development Course.  This course will be a two (2) day course offered at Camp Ripley, MN. 

This course is designed for tactical personnel who are responsible for operating in the capacity as a SWAT Team Leader.  The focus of this training will be on pre-incident training, organizing, and the tactical decision-making process used in the safe resolution of high-risk operations using a best practice theory.

This course will also cover topics including leadership, personnel selection and testing, training issues and liability, and a critical incident review.

Practical applications will consist of scouting and planning warrants, small team planning/ tactics used in the resolution of critical incidents – Barricaded persons and Hostage Rescue. Attendees will participate in group discussions, write operations orders (SMEAC), and develop training plans, plus critique and evaluate tactics and decisions.  Course content and materials will be provided on a jump drive for each attendee. 

The instructor cadre for this course was hand selected and brings over 175 years of law enforcement experience with them.  That includes 94 years in SWAT, with 49 years of Team Leader experience.     

Attendee to Instructor ratio/ 2:1.

The course will consist of both classroom and hands-on training portions to include physical training.  Criteria for attendees are listed below.

Meals, with exception of dinner on the last day are included, as well as lodging.  Students are encouraged to bring heavy snacks (protein bars, etc).  Water and energy drinks will also be provided.

Lodging will be "open bay" barracks.  A packing list will be forwarded to students after they register. 

Attendee Requirements:

·        3 years tactical experience

  • Preferred TL or ATL experience

·        Have all requested equipment and return scanned sign off

·        Authorization from Administration or Commander

·        Waiver and acknowledgment of physical requirements
