About this event

Join us for a sail aboard tall ship Matthew Turner, the only traditionally rigged sailing ship powered with hybrid electric propulsion. Learn about the newly built brigantine powered by the BAE Systems HybriGen Power/Propulsion system, and built from FSC certified wood. Lunch and non alcoholic beverages, pre sail coffee reception, post sail tour of the Bay model and lecture on sea and Bay level rise are included in the ticket price.

 

Schedule/Details for Saturday, August 14, 2021:

  • 9 - 9:45a: Welcome, Mixer/\meet & greet at the Bay Model Community Room
  • 9:45a: Boarding time onto the Matthew Turner at pier outside of Bay Model building
  • 10a: Embark
  • 10-1pm Sail the Bay. lunch and beverages while underway
  • 1:15p Assemble in Main Hall of Bay Model
  • 1:30p: tour of bay model, expert lecture by ranger on sea and bay level rise caused by climate change, areas impacted on Marin and Bay coastline.
  • 3p: Finish tour, wrap-up

And a no host Reception afterwards at local venue.


Location and Parking

Matthew Turner is docked at the US Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model Visitor Center in Sausalito, CA. Access to the parking lot and pier is via Marinship Way. Free parking is available in the lot. Coffee mixer from 9-9:45am at Bay model center in community room. At 9:45, a crew member will meet you at the gate to escort you down the pier to the ship.

Covid 19 Safety Protocol:

  • Masks are required for those UNvaccinated
  • Masks are required for EVERYONE who enters any INTERIOR space, such as the chart house, engine rooms and toilets.

  • Food is allowed on board for personal consumption, but no alcohol.

They have 40 tickets reserved for us and they will go fast (in November, they sold out in 48 hours), so please sign up as soon as you can.  


What to Bring:

  • A reusable water bottle to ensure you stay hydrated
  • Dress in layers: a windbreaker, warm base layer, gloves, hat, scarf, sunglasses, sunscreen and comfortable shoes. No high heels are permitted.
  • Cameras are welcome, but please be aware that water can splash aboard. Protect your equipment accordingly.


Weather

We sail in most weather, including cold, wind, fog, and light showers. On occasion, we will need to reschedule a sail due to extreme wind or rain. You will be notified within at least 24 hours of the scheduled sail and we will work with you to reschedule or refund your order.

Tickets

A ticket is required for all passengers, including infants. Children 17 and under must be accompanied and supervised at all times by an adult.

Cancellation

You may cancel or reschedule your sail with 24 hour advance notice. No refunds for guests who miss the boat.

Why Call of the Sea?

Call of the Sea is a not for profit supporting on-the-water environmental education. During the week, they provide educational programs to youth. Community Sails are a great way to share their mission with new people and to help lower costs for youth educational sails.
