PaddleLife and Sean Rice is heading to beautiful Cornwall again this year and we can't wait!
We are excited to announce dates for our spring time PaddleLife Sursfki Workshop in Cornwall! Last year we had a fantastic workshop with lots of interest from local paddlers. We also had a number of paddlers make the trip down from their London Kayak Clubs to join in on the fun! As before, the workshop will be conducted by the international surfski champion, Sean Rice, and Cornwall based high-performance coach Glenn Eldridge. PaddleLife prides itself in offering the highest-quality learning experience. Sean and Glenn are both extremely experienced coaches and conduct their workshops in a friendly, relaxed and professional manner. We guarantee that each paddler will come away from the weekend with a whole new field of paddling knowledge and will experience an unforgettable time with some of the best in the sport.
Surfski Paddling Workshop with Sean Rice & Glenn Eldridge- Sat 18th & Sunday 19th May 2019
Yes, you read it right! This year our workshop will run over 2 days!
We had such a great time last year that it was requested by many in the group that we extend our time together. Having this extra time gives each paddler valuable experience in the boat and of course, more one-on-one time for our world class coaching! With so much to learn and the most spectacular paddling all around, it would be a shame not to make a full weekend of fun out of this opportunity!
We encourage paddlers of ALL abilities to join us, although complete beginners (i.e. never held a paddle before!) might struggle with some of the water experience. Much of the information, techniques and experience gained through our coaching will be transferable to your kayak which makes it extra reason to attend even if you have never been near a surfski before! The lessons will consist of some land-based theory and practice, but mostly water-based drills as that's where the fun and learning experience is best!
Our workshop location provides us with options for both sheltered and exposed ocean in most weather conditions. Our main priority is to have some fun and to learn, so be confident that you will not need to ever be out of your comfort zone during the workshop! We are also very fortunate to have access to the amazing facilities of the Ocean Sport Centre on the beach as a base for our time together.
Topics covered in the workshop:
- What is surfski and how to build confidence through the experience no matter your background
- Optimizing your individual surfski, paddle and gear set up
- Group and One-on-one paddle stroke technique both off and on the water
- Learn some tricks and tips on how to improve or manage your stroke when the coach isn't watching!
- Get individual feedback and information/techniques to improve your stroke
- An introduction to ocean paddling or run riding/downwind strategy
- Learn surf skills that make waves become fun, not scary!
- Balance drills and exercises to improve your stability no matter your craft
- Off water conditioning and strength theory and practice for home
- Training tips and information to take your training to the next level no matter your experience
- Training motivation
- Racing "tricks of the trade"
- Pre and post-race preparation and nutrition
Workshop Times:
Saturday 18th May: 1pm- 5pm
Sunday 19th May: 9am-1pm
We have a later start on Saturday to allow for those paddlers who plan to drive down from London etc to make it in time. After the workshop, there will time for more "surfski chat", especially Saturday night when we plan to have a group dinner in the local town. We can cover any topic you like and encourage questions!
Again, if you are new to the sport or just simply don't have the gear yet, then don't worry! We will have a number of surfskis, paddles and other gear available to use. So no excuses, bring a friend!
This workshop is not to be missed! Any level of paddler will benefit from attending the workshop and will have an evening of FUN and a super learning experience! Space is limited so don't wait to book. We will work on a first come, first serve bases.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Please note:
Safety - all safety equipment is required: a PFD and a leg leash is compulsory
Please bring your own surfski and paddle (If you do not have these, please contact us and we will see what we can do!)
