Suicide Prevention, Behavioral Health, and Best Practices (Virtual Event)

*** This course meets the Suicide Prevention requirement for licensure renewal. **

This workshop will examine the prevalence of suicide and what types of mental health concerns coincide with high rates of suicide.  The workshop will also examine prevention strategies and how social workers can take care of and manage vicarious trauma that may occur when working with clients who present as suicidal, have attempted suicide, or have completed suicide.  This course will meet the Suicide Prevention Continuing Education Units as required by the Missouri Licensing Board.

Educational Objectives:

  1. Participants will recognize and identify what constitutes suicide and suicidality
  2. Participants will examine the current research regarding suicide and its prevalence
  3. Participants will discuss and develop best practices and  suicide prevention strategies
  4. Participants will examine various techniques for Managing Vicarious or Secondary Trauma

 

 

Ms. Terri Cooley- Bennett is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (MO), a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (KS), a Co-occurring Disorders Professional-Diplomate (MO) and a Tobacco Treatment Specialist.  Ms. Cooley-Bennett is the Outreach Services Manager at Swope Health Services, a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center and Certified Community Behavioral Health Center.  She is experienced as a presenter, workshop leader, and educator and served as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare.  She provides field instruction for social work students.  In addition, she provides Continuing Education for professionals and has been a speaker and workshop presenter for various agencies and groups for over 20 years.  Ms. Cooley-Bennet speaks and serves on the board of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Missouri Chapter and is  trained with the National NASW Office of Ethics and Professional Review.

Our members represent NASW throughout the state, living and working in rural, suburban, and urban counties. Our members work in wide range of settings among diverse populations. The Missouri Chapter office is located in in downtown Jefferson City, just blocks from the Capital Building. We are a non-profit professional membership organization for degreed social workers as well as students matriculating through Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited schools.
