“Aobana” (blue flower) is a traditionally used fugitive ink that can be washed away in water. Aobana ink is stenciled over fabric as a guide for many shibori techniques. With this skill, you can mark intricate or bold designs on the fabric to be dyed. With the aobana ink and the stencils you make in class, you can easily recreate the same design over a collection of different fabrics. Aobana stenciling is one of Murase-san's signature skills passed down from his family, and he is ready to share this invaluable skill to aid you in mastering shibori techniques. These stencils can also be used to mark designs for sashiko stitchery and other projects.
Basic supplies for making the stencils are included in the class fee. Students will receive instructions for purchasing class materials on the SFS Shop with discount codes. Additionally, they will receive links to source the ingredients for Aobana fugitive ink.
