IStructE Regional Group Committee is inviting you to an online webinar by Alessandro Rumi, Business Development Manager at BARTEC GROUP, on the topic "STARS - Splicing Technology Allows Reduction of Steel”.
It is thanks to the experience of BARTEC GROUP, one of the major splicing manufacturers, that it was possible to understand the terrific potential of mechanical splice to decrease the amount of steel bars into reinforced concrete structures, while increasing the quality and durability of the structure itself, and without a major impact on its cost.
This project answers to the actual demand of major environmental organizations and governments to find means to reduce the carbon footprint at the design stage. It is a first step for a larger study including a more detailed evaluation of the benefits after going with mechanical couplers instead of the traditional overlap. Reducing steel rebars means less trucks from the mill to the workshop, and to from the workshop to the job site, saving time for loading/unloading/logistic organization, less impact on the road system, etc...
STARS is made of two parts: first part dedicated to a general presentation of the existing splicing solutions, with all its technical and constructive advantages, followed by the original study of conducted by BARTEC to determine the positive impact on reducing the embedded carbon in the concrete reinforced structures.
