Thursday, 24 October 2019 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM AEST

Cuppacumbalong, 21, Tharwa, ACT, 2620, Australia.

One day puppet carving workshop, includes camping at Cuppacumbalong and all meals.

Tharwa NSW (about 20 minutes from Canberra)

Learn the old and nearly forgotten craft of carving a stringed marionette puppet straight from a tree. You'll discover how every tree has hidden in it a whole family of puppets, and how to use a range of slow carving techniques to find your very own timeless companion.

You'll learn to design and carve a small marionette two stringed puppet using just a whittling knife and a small axe. Learn how to safely carve different expressions on a face, how to articulate different parts of the body and how to make your happy little creation spring to life!

There are only a handful of people making puppets this way throughout the world, so join professional wood carver and puppet maker, Jeff Donne to learn the pleasures of carving at an unhurried pace and how to carve a puppet just like Geppetto did!

Absolutely no experience needed, for ages 16+. All tools to use and materials provided.

This year's Spoon Jam and pre-Jam workshops has all meals provided (breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner) and BYO camping included in the ticket price, so all you need to do is camp, carve and eat, and we'll take care of the rest! If camping isn't your cup of tea, there are glamping bell tents with real beds and rooms at the homestead available directly through the Cuppacumbalong Homestead.

Enjoy a day of happy slowness in a lovely country setting on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River :)

Price does not include entry to the Spoon Jam weekend on 26 & 27 October.
