The overview effect is a cognitive shift in awareness reported by some astronauts during spaceflight, often while viewing the Earth from outer space. The term and concept were coined in 1987 by Frank White, who explored the theme in his book The Overview Effect.

From space, national boundaries vanish, the conflicts that divide people become less important, and the need to create a planetary society with the united will to protect this “pale blue dot” becomes both obvious and imperative.

John us for a fascinating discussion about the meaning of the overview effect and the growing quest to provide more people with the opportunity to experience it.

In our run up to the Space Tourism Conference taking place April 28, 2021 at The Proud Bird in Los Angeles, we've instituted a series of preview webinars featuring many of the speakers and industry leaders taking part in the event. The Space Tourism Conference (STC) features a dynamic mix of executives, including leading flight providers, tech developers, financiers, entertainment execs, futurists, marketers, designers, inventors, and astronauts. It is produced with support from the Space Tourism Society (STS), the world’s leading space tourism advocacy organization for over 20 years.
