The Society of Hospital Medicine South Central PA Chapter will be hosting a Point-of-Care Ultrasound Course on Saturday, February 10th at 7:30 a.m. ET. Participants will begin to develop the knowledge needed for basic diagnostic point of care ultrasound competencies typically encountered for the hospital medicine provider and explore and develop the manual probe skills necessary for image acquisition. This course is targeted at beginners to diagnostic point of care ultrasound who are interested in experiencing what POCUS can offer to bedside clinicians and educators. Following this course, motivated attendees may wish to consider other POCUS course offerings from professional organizations in the future to obtain formal competency and certification.
The Society of Hospital Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.The Society of Hospital Medicine designates this in-person activity for a maximum of 7.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The faculty and planners of these activities have no relevant relationships to disclose. David Chu is an associate professor of medicine in the division of pulmonary, allergy and critical care at Penn State. He serves as the program director for the pulmonary/critical care fellowship where he also directs the critical care ultrasound curriculum. He also co-directs the point of care ultrasound curriculum for the internal medicine residency. His clinical area of expertise is in pulmonary vascular diseases.
Ravinder Dhatt, MD, specializes in internal medicine and is certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He practices at PinnacleHealth Internal Medicine Residency Program and is affiliated with UPMC West Shore, UPMC Harrisburg and UPMC Community Osteopathic. He completed his medical school at American University of the Caribbean and residency program at PinnacleHealth.
Dr. Shane Kinard is an assistant professor of hospital medicine at Penn State College of Medicine. He previously attended medical school at UC San Diego and completed his IM residency at St. Joseph Mercy in Ann Arbor, MI. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and has been teaching students, residents, and faculty how to utilize point of care ultrasound for procedures and diagnostic purposes since 2019.
Dr. Ramesh most recently served as intensive care unit (ICU) medical director for UPMC Susquehanna. She completed her fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York. Dr. Ramesh is board-certified in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and internal medicine.
I am currently assistant professor of medicine at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. I serve as the Associate Program Director of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship. My clinical interests include medical education and critical care quality improvement.
Sue is a physician assistant with the Division of Hospital Medicine at Penn State Hershey Medical Center and is the SHM South Central PA Chapter APP Lead.
