Sniff And Learn is an excellent program to teach dogs to remain calm in the presence of other dogs; to take instructions from their dog parent; to learn life skills such as walking nicely on leash and to learn how to return when called.

All new enrolments will require assessment. A qualified Industry Accredited Dog trainer will attend your home and provide a 1 on 1 suitability assessment and advise on current issues. This will include a brief introduction of techniques that will be used in the Sniff And Learn program. If you have two dogs from the same household they will need to attend separate classes.

All of our programs that involve walking focus on quality rather than quantity i.e. the walking is not the primary purpose. So, in reality, we don't walk that far within the session. However, the dogs do learn a lot no matter what distance is travelled. Sniffing is a tool we use to encourage calmness; relaxation; satisfying natural curiosity and encouragement to use the language that dogs use - we'll explain more about this in the session.

We definitely don't pound the pavement and do big hikes. We just don't usually stay in one spot. We encourage the use of longer leads to allow for a relaxing walk rather than an 'at heel' walk.

Puppies less than 12-18 months old shouldn't walk very long distances because they are not physically mature enough, and doing so can risk damage to their young joints. Large breeds are especially at risk. Hence why we do lots of sniffing and exploring but not much distance walking.
