SCHS PTA is pleased to announce the Second Annual Career and College Planning Series on April 12 2018 from at 6:30-8:30 PM at Santa Cruz High. Meet at the entrance to the auditorium.
The presentation is intended for 9th-11th grade students and their parents and will include 2 breakout sessions covering the following
1) Learn how as parents you can help your child to find who they are and discover what they would like to do.
2) Get in the Know Zone- Preparing For College Admission

Our presenters are Sherry Williams from SC High Counseling and SCHS Parent Michelle Close – from Close College Counseling
Session 1
Learn how as parents you can help your child to find who they are and discover what they would like to do.
In this session we will discuss the parent’s importance in career exploration and how you as parents can help your child in discovering your student's interests, values, and personality .
You will learn about connecting who your student is to their future, and the sequencing of deciding a college major field of study.
We will also touch on researching and exploring Specific Careers
Session 2
Get in the Know Zone: Preparing For College
Learn how a student’s high school experience actually prepares them to apply for and attend college. We will explore how to find the “ right” university and college.
Learning how the decisions, actions, and choices of students in grades 9-11 can positively impact a student’s chances of admission to a college of their choice is empowering.
This goal of this workshop is to make students and parents aware of the factors that colleges base their admission decisions upon especially those that students/families have control over
We will discuss the timeline involved through
a. the college research and assessment process,
b. essay writing
c. and the final submission of an application to college.
Last we will discuss the importance of paying attention to scholarships and deadlines.
