Saint Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Monastery
Saturday, February 02, 2019, 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Hosted by Deb & Brian Anton
We have planned an educational drive to Saint Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Monastery (http://www.stanthonysmonastery.org) located in the Sonoran Desert eight miles south of Florence and then lunch at a wonderful Greek Restaurant.
Upon entering the Monastery they request all visitors to be in proper attire which is:
· Modest loose-fitting clothing.
· Men wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts.
· Woman wear long skirts, loose-fitting long sleeved blouses and scarves over their hair.
· Ladies can simply put a skirt over their existing clothing if they don’t want to wear the skirt all day. They have a few skirts and scarves to loan.
We will be greeted by a Monk who will give us a brief overview on Orthodox lifestyle, as well as the history of the Greek Orthodox Church. This is a functioning Monastery so we will be able to observe their daily routines and tour the grounds.
You will have the opportunity to observe several Chapels, both Greek and Russian design, gardens, orchards, olive groves, and Spanish fountains.
After touring the grounds, we will have lunch in Florence at Mount Athos Greek Restaurant (www.MountAthosCafe.com). This is a privately-owned restaurant with great authentic Greek food. There will be a special menu with several items to choose from with a price which includes a non-alcoholic beverage and tax. The gratuity is not included.
If Sold-Out, please sign up on the Waiting List. We will notify if there is a cancellation.
Registration is required by Monday midnight, January 28th.
