Fire is power. Fire is light. Fire is heat. Fire is primordial, and it affects us all deeply - just look at the faces at any fire pit, entranced by the flickering flames.

Sacred Fire Keeping is also an ancient tradition, Spiritual practice, and art form. So, just how good are your fire skills?

Come lean some new things that will make you an invaluable part of any weekend cottage getaway, camping trip, outdoor festival or sacred ceremony.

We will open with a circle to ground ourselves arrive in the space connect with Mother Earth and create a shared intention for the evening.

Other activities will include:

- connecting with and preparing the wood and space for the fire complete with smudging ourselves and the container of journey.

- learning safety and techniques for tools, splitting wood and preparing kindling. We will each have opportunities to practice with different tool power solitary, axe, hatchets, machete, a power splitter.

- preparing to light the circle together (several small fires to form into one community fire) using natural tinder (birch bark peeling and roughing)

- learning how to keep a fire going in different conditions, and about fire etiquette.

Once the fire is ablaze we will explore the ethics of honouring the fire, enjoy some tea from herbs from the land, and connect in rhythm, and with Spirit, through a sacred drum circle. We will wrap things up around 10 before returning to our homes.

Mané Rayne brings decades of experience building fires safely around the world for ceremony, cooking and survival. also a huge advocate of connectivity practices within ourself and each other, and nature. With his Inuit father, he has spent extended time in the wilderness developing a respect for the land and many skills to live in harmony with it. This led to a curiosity to explore the similarities and differences between how tribal cultures and communities honour and relate to fire, connecting with the land and elements, and the rituals that make this practice sacred.

The sacred drumming circle will be facilitated by Rufus Glassco, a shamanic coach, drum circle facilitator, drum maker and sound healer.

Rufus Glassco is a drum circle facilitator who specializes in drumming for health and wellness. He has been studying modern shamanic practices and shamanic coaching for the past 7 years through the Institute of Shamanic Medicine, and with Sandra Ingerman in the US. He’s also been learning from curanderos and chamanes for even longer in Mexico, where his wife Dinora is from. He believes that everyone, regardless of bloodline or ethnic origin, can access the knowledge and practice of Shamanism, because it connects us to our ancestors. If you go far back enough in time, all of us had ancestors who lived in greater harmony with the natural world, and were able to better communicate with, and benefit from the connection to, the natural and spiritual worlds.
