The Run for Rose Mont” –a Kentucky Derby Party and fund-raising event, will be held at Historic Rose Mont located at 810 South Water Avenue in Gallatin, Tennessee, on Saturday, May 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The party, which will feature a live bluegrass band, more than 30 prizes, heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, and mint juleps, and a silent auction, will celebrate and pay homage to the Sumner County horse-racing heritage of which Josephus Conn Guild, the builder of the home in 1842 was an avid and active participant. In the 1840’s and 1850’s Guild owned and raced winning thoroughbreds such as Beeswing, Hiawatha, and Jack Malone in his day. Today, their portraits, recreated by his Guild’s great-great-great grandson, Cass Holly, hang on the walls of Judge Guild’s office.
