The Integrative Health Summit: Seminar Series 2019

Restoring Gastrointestinal Health: Advances in the Assessment and Treatment of Gut Dysfunction.

Gastrointestinal disorders - including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD) and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and gluten intolerance - represent some of the most commonly accounted health issues in clinical practice, and yet are also notoriously poorly managed with symptoms persisting and relapsing over many years. Functional medicine offers a different way of viewing the gut and approaching clinical management by moving away from symptom-based diagnosis to understanding underlying dysfunction and utilising personalised nutrition and lifestyle medicine.

Clinical management of gastrointestinal dysfunction requires an approach based on our evolving knowledge of the underlying multi-factorial origins of gastrointestinal symptoms unique to each individual. Accessible and cost-effective nutritional, metabolic and digestive assessments can help identify the cause of symptoms and direct and correspondingly personalise care.

This remarkable full-day, multi-speaker, interactive event explores the underlying causes of digestive symptoms as well as the clinical assessment tools that can be used to identify them. We also look at how assessment can be used to inform personalized dietary, lifestyle and nutritional interventions that improve physiological function, restore gastrointestinal health and resolve symptoms. Case-based learning, clinical tools and interactive sessions bring the learning together so it can be quickly implemented in practice.

This important event will cover:

  • An in-depth exploration of the pros, cons and evidence for symptom-based, in-practice and laboratory-based clinical assessments.
  • How clinical assessments can confidently be used to personalise functional-medicine based clinical management plans.
  • Advances in the clinical management of functional gastrointestinal disease with personalised dietary, nutritional and lifestyle medicine.
  • Interactive learning including case studies and practical sessions.
