Recovery Coach Academy
Classes will be held February 20 - April 17th, 2019
Every Wednesday: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
The Recovery Coach Academy is a 60-hour training opportunity for those interested in serving as a recovery coach. A Recovery Coach promotes strength-based recovery from alcohol, other drugs, codependency or other addictive behaviors. They assist persons with active addictions as well as persons already in recovery by removing barriers and obstacles to recovery. Recovery Coaches also serve as personal guides and mentors. This training will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the various roles, purpose, and tasks of a recovery coach and will provide participants with the tools and resources necessary in providing effective recovery support services.
Participants will learn to:
- Understand the roles, functions, and purpose of a recovery coach
- Use skills needed in coaching relationships, including a 'recovery wellness plan'
- Identify the various stages of change and recovery
- Access local treatment, self-help, and other support systems
- Describe various substances of misuse, withdrawal symptoms, and negative health/social consequences
- Converse with recoverees using a motivational framework
- Recognize the role culture, power, and privilege play in addiction and recovery
- Address and navigate various ethical and boundary issues
Trainer Bio:
Steven M. Chisholm is a recovery advocate with over 25 years of experience working in the recovery community, treatment programs, and education. He holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University. Mr. Chisholm enjoys a reputation as a knowledgeable and passionate facilitator, who combines his professional and lived experience with a sense of authenticity, warmth, and humor during his highly interactive trainings.

Training Fee: $300.00 (includes manuals and certificate of attendance); payable with a credit card online, or check.
Refunds: MV AHEC does not provide refunds after the first class (2/20/19).
Certificates & Completion Requirements: Participants are expected to sign-in, attend the entire training, and complete an evaluation. Merrimack Valley AHEC will provide a certificate of attendance to all participants upon completion of the course. This training will prepare participants to become a Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC).
