Laura Morris, MT (ASCP) CIC, is the education coordinator for Special Pathogens Laboratory. A certified infection preventionist, Laura brings more than 30 combined years of experience in the areas of infection prevention and clinical microbiology.
Janet E. Stout,PhD is the director of Special Pathogens Laboratory and research associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. A clinical and environmental microbiologist, she is recognized worldwide for more than 30 years of pioneering research in Legionella. The author of more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as textbook chapters on Legionella and Legionnaires’ disease.
Frank P. Sidari III, PE, BCEE, is Technical Director for SPL Consulting Services. A professional and board certified engineer, Sidari brings more than 18 years of experience in all phases of water engineering projects with a specialty in Legionella in building water systems.
Shatha Salah is the Environmental Manager at UAB Medicine where she is responsible for directing and managing the UAB Medicine Water Safety Plan and serves as a member on the UAB Medicine water safety team. She is responsible for managing all supplemental water treatment systems at UAB Medicine and authorizer of Water System Construction Risk Assessments for all construction and maintenance projects in the hospital.
Lauren Orkis is an applied epidemiologist at the Allegheny County Health Department and a Visiting Instructor at the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public Health. She completed her DrPH in Epidemiology in 2017 from Pitt Public Health where she studied the epidemiology of sporadic community-acquired Legionnaires’ disease. She teaches an applied epidemiology course at Pitt Public Health and she conducts applied epidemiology research.
Ursula Lauper is an environmental epidemiologist and applied social scientist, Ursula’s work has touched on a broad range of topics. For the past two years Ursula has been with the Bureau of Water Supply Protection at the New York State Department of Health, where she oversees research, evaluation, policy, and resource development efforts related to New York State’s regulation, Protection Against Legionella.
Rebecca Fugitt has B.S. and M.S. degrees in Geological Sciences from Ohio University with specialization in hydrogeology, and is a Registered Sanitarian in the state of Ohio. Rebecca is the Assistant Chief of the Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection and is responsible for supervising the Residential Water and Sewage, X-Ray, Radiation Health and Safety and Agreement State (radiation materials handling inspection and licensing) Programs at the Ohio Department of Health.
Sylvia Garcia-Houchins is the Director, Infection Prevention and Control in the Division of Healthcare Improvement. In this role, she is responsible for the oversight of infection prevention and control for The Joint Commission.
LuAnn Brink has more than eight years of experience working for the Allegheny County Health Department. She has served as its Chief of Epidemiology since April of 2014. In this capacity, she manages a staff that includes infectious disease investigation and reporting, as well as analysis and reporting of all chronic disease and vital statistics, which includes environmental investigations.
