Janet E. Stout,PhD is the director of Special Pathogens Laboratory and research associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. A clinical and environmental microbiologist, she is recognized worldwide for more than 30 years of pioneering research in Legionella. The author of more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as textbook chapters on Legionella and Legionnaires’ disease.

Shatha Salah is the Environmental Manager at UAB Medicine where she is responsible for directing and managing the UAB Medicine Water Safety Plan and serves as a member on the UAB Medicine water safety team. She is responsible for managing all supplemental water treatment systems at UAB Medicine and authorizer of Water System Construction Risk Assessments for all construction and maintenance projects in the hospital.

She completed her DrPH in Epidemiology in 2017 from Pitt Public Health where she studied the epidemiology of sporadic community-acquired Legionnaires’ disease. She teaches an applied epidemiology course at Pitt Public Health and she conducts applied epidemiology research.
