Infection Prevention and Ice Machines
Objectives:
· Recognize risks of infection associated with ice machines
· Recognize the consumption of ice as a source of legionellosis infection
· Recognize how staff use of ice machines can support biofilm growth and contamination
· Recognize microaspiration of ice and water as an important, but under recognized, route of exposure in the chain of infection
· Recognize manufacturer recommended inspections and cleaning techniques can be insufficient to prevent biofilm formation and contamination
· Identify improved and novel ice machine cleaning techniques
· Identify ATP testing as a means of validating ice machine cleaning
