Project SHALOM is a community service event sponsored by the Lake Orion United Methodist Church which has been an annual tradition for almost 40 years. On the weekend of November 6th & November 7th, teams of youth, led by adult volunteers, will devote their time to provide yard work free of charge to residents in the Lake Orion/Oxford/Oakland Township area. Youth can sign up for one or both days. Youth can get community service hours for this event, however, they are responsible for providing the appropriate paperwork for signature if that is required by their organization.
Please note that a REQUIRED TEAM MEETING is scheduled for Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. This meeting is important for all to attend since this is when team sign-up occurs and adult leaders and youth meet and discuss scheduled jobs and any materials they need to bring. Expectations are also covered at this meeting.
ALL ADULTS and YOUTH WILL NEED TO PROVIDE THEIR OWN RAKE AND WORK GLOVES! Please label both so if they are left behind we can contact you!
LOUMC will have grab-and-go breakfast foods available in the morning and provide a brown bag lunch for participants. If adults and youth have allergy concerns, they should provide their own breakfast and lunch to ensure their safety. TEAMS WILL NOT BE STOPPING AT RESTAURANTS OR GOING THROUGH DRIVE THRUS FOR LUNCH.
Masks will be required while inside buildings and vehicles. Unless the CDC or the Oakland County Health Department changes their guidelines, masks will not be required while outside together.
