Pottery III - Advanced Studio Pottery for Adults (21+)

January 15 - March 19

Class Fees: $210, (Museum members: $189)

Fee includes 25 lbs of clay, glazes, firings, and use of all tools, supplies and studio equipment. Additional clay is available at $14 per 25lb bag for stoneware and $20 per 25 lb bag of porcelain. Note: students have the option to recycle their own clay after being trained to use the studio pugmill.

About This Class:

Advanced Studio Pottery III is 10-week directed studio opportunity for adult students with excellent clay skills, craftsmanship, and technique. Pottery III students work semi-independently, pursuing clay as an art form in the production of both functional and nonfunctional pieces.  

Advanced Pottery III Students will: 

 •  with the instructors, set individual learning and production goals which reflect intentional growth as a clay artist.

 •  participate in and occasionally direct regular group discussion, analysis and critique.

 •  demonstrate a solid knowledge of and be able to discuss the elements and principles of design, as related to both contemporary and historical clay work.

 •  participate in solo or group exhibits or displays of their work.

 •  continually research the techniques and work of historical and contemporary potters through current publications, books, and internet resources.

 •  participate in an occasional class assignment.

 •  individually or with another Pottery III student, present/demo specific techniques/skills to other students either in class or during Open Studios

Additional studio times for pottery students: 

Wednesdays 6 – 9 pm

Fridays 12:30 – 3:30 pm

Saturdays 9 am – 12 pm

Other times by arrangement with instructors.

Instructors and/or Teaching Assistants are always available in the studio to help.

 

ABOUT THE STUDIO:

The Museum Pottery Studio is a well-equipped, safe workspace which includes: 

  • 12 wheels, 3 large electric kilns, 2 slab rollers, a pugmill for recycling clay, 2 extruders, and industrial air cleaners; 
  • All basic tools, materials, and supplies for all classes; 
  • A studio library which offers books, DVDs, magazines and publications.
  • Extensive storage and shelving for each student with a designated shelf for her/his on-going work and personal supplies.
