This workshop is designed to introduce the Positive Discipline philosophy and tools to health care educators who work with parents, children and families. Through this interactive workshop, participants will be able to explore non-punitive and non-permissive (kind and firm) discipline strategies. Posiitve Discipline is based on the Adlerian research-based philosophy and the series of books and resources by Jane Nelsen, EdD., Lynn Lott and others. Participants will gain a greater understainding of how young children learn, the importance of belonging and significance and social and emotional learning. 

Please come prepared to move around and do activities in this experiential workshop. Topics that will be covered during this 4 hour workshop are: strategies for potty training, eating challenges, sleep/routine difficulties and general parenting discipline challenges.

Cathy Kawakami is the owner of Middle Ground Parenting. She is a Certified Positive Discipline Parent and Classroom Lead Trainer through the Positive Discipline Association and provides parenting classes and coaching in the San Jose, CA area. Classes are based on the series of Positive Discipline parenting books by Dr. Jane Nelson, Lynn Lott and many others. I have 10+ years of experience working in preschool and elementary school settings in addition to being a parent to two children. I have led Positive Discipline workshops and presented at conferences in the US and abroad. I am currently serving as the co-chair of the Board of Directors for the Positive Discipline Association. I understand the struggles that today's parents face. Positive Discipline tools have helped me in my parenting journey and I am passionate about sharing the philosophy and tools with others.
