A core principal and pillar of the QMU Student Experience Strategy is our belief in a student-centred approach to learning (QMU SES 2016 & QM150. 2016). Student-centred approaches rely on learner interaction in the construction of knowledge and the achievement of learning objectives. In response to learner demand and aging hardware, the Centre for Academic Practice alongside 20 tutors have implemented a new pilot running 779 polls receiving 13,505 learner responses onsite, offsite and online.

The new BYOD polling solution has provided students the opportunity to post questions, create word cloud responses and pin point an answer on an image all using their own browser, text or tweet.  This short session invites a number of trial tutors to share their experiences of using open–ended polling with their learners and includes novel approaches taken to MCQs, placement feedback and module evaluation. Following the presentations tutors will have the opportunity to go hands-on with tips on embedding polling into their learning sessions.
