Location: Shlenker School Houston, TX

In this one day workshop we will show you how to get the bang for your buck through Focus Poetry, songs and Shared Reading. These teaching methods create opportunities to explore language and literature with your whole class.  Rhyme, repetition and rhythm are essential to support phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and fluency in developing readers. We will look at using poems and texts appropriate for shared reading to support not only these aspects of language but also answer the questions of how to embed the teaching of reading strategies that support print work and comprehension as well as exploring the use of grammar, punctuation, poetry elements and literary devices inside of text!  Registration fee includes professional text and handout.  Whew!  We will gather together in the morning and split into upper elementary and primary in the afternoon!

ALL WORKSHOPS WILL BEGIN AT 8:45 AM AND CONCLUDE AT 3:45 PM   ALL REGISTRATIONS MUST BE PAID PRIOR TO THE WORKSHOP.  BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A CONSULTANT DAY, TITLE ONE FUNDS WILL DO THIS FOR A REGISTRATION FEE.

You may want to arrive between 8:25 and 8:30 to sign in, pick up materials and find seating.  If you are expecting a large group from your school it is a good idea to come early if sitting together is important to you.  Dress comfortably and you may want to add layers...buildings can be really cold.
