Sandtray therapy is one of the most profound and powerful healing modalities in existence.  Whether you work with children or adults, it can become your most sacred process involved in trauma healing.  Because that is true, there are essential training elements that ensure your work in this area is supported, guided, and positively enhanced.

By joining this workshop, you will:

 

 

  • Learn the various perspectives and approaches to sandtray.

 

  • Understand the basic preparations for sandtray from choice of tray, to beginning a miniature set, preparing the room and more.

 

  • Recognize appropriate populations and pacing of sandtray work.  Discuss the benefits, limitations, and solutions for working in various settings, including schools.

 

  • Learn the process of sandtray including how to begin with child or adult clients, what to pay attention to, self-awareness, and when or how to process the client's creation.

 

  • Learn the differences between directive and non-directive trays, when each might be most appropriate, and some basic directive prompts to begin your practice.

 

  • Be able to identify special practice points, ethical considerations.

 

  • Receive and review a practice list of universal multidisciplinary "Do's and Don'ts" of Sandtray.

 

  • Play!  "Your First Sandtray" - After your learning, you will create and experience the processing of your own sandtray and receive onsite practice coaching on how to apply this learning to your client population.

 

  • Take home materials and visual aids to help you remember important practice and processing points you can use right during your sessions.

 

 

 

LOCATION:  Your workshop will be held in a charming , comfortable setting in downtown Apex.  Our training and healing Center is located in an historic home and will provide an inviting, soothing atmosphere to support your learning.  

 

Bagel Breakfast and delicious refreshments throughout the day included!   

 

CEUS:  You will receive a Certificate of Attendance for 6 continuing education hours, 1 of which will count for Ethics.  Check with your licensing board to ensure acceptance.

 

REGISTRATION:  We limit this workshop to 12 participants to ensure a healthy and connected learning experience.  This workshop has a history of filling quickly, so be sure to reserve your spot soon!  Smiling Spirit Pathways will keep a waitlist until one week before the training date.

YOUR PRESENTER:  To learn more about your workshop facilitator, send your eyes over to the right side of this page where there is information about her experience and current projects.  Cherie L. Spehar has processed thousands of sandtrays since 1995 and incorporates these regularly into her therapeutic approach.  Despite the number of sand worlds she has seen, there is no time that she does not feel in reverent awe of each tray she has had the honor to witness.

Cherie L. Spehar, LCSW, is a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, and Certified Trauma Consultant-Supervisor in Apex, NC. A clinician since 1994, she has dedicated her life to the well-being and healing of children, women, adults and families. With her extensive clinical background, her professional path has found her in roles such as Certified Dept. Trainer and Lead Blogger with the National Institute for Trauma and Loss, Executive Director of The Child Abuse Prevention Center in Raleigh, NC and Training Developer with the NCSU Social Work Department. Presently, she is Founder, Director, and Lead Clinician at her recognized trauma-informed agency, Smiling Spirit Pathways-The Apex Center for Trauma Healing, where she has developed a haven for consultation, training, child and family therapy, and trauma services. Cherie is an engaging, approachable, sought after presenter and trainer, and travels often to speak locally and nationally on working with traumatized children and adults.
