Meets Day 1 of 2 day programme. The morning session is underpinning knowledge of height, weight, BMI, urinalysis and temperature recording including how to acheive and record accurate measurments and factors that influence the recording as well as how to report abnormalities. We cover policies, procedures and defined ways of working. The importance of accurate recordings. Documentation maintenance and calibration of equipment, infection prevention and control, safe disposal of specimens.

The afternoon is a scenario based practical session - with competency supervision and assessment discussed.

Day 2 - Underpinning basic knowledge of recording pulse respiratory rate and BP (manual and automatic), the factors that influence and the risks associated with abnormal readings. Roles, responsibilities and boundaries of the HCSW are emphasised on both sessions, as are the importance of practice policies and procedures.

The scenario based practical afternoon encourages learners to practice the skills in an encouraging and supportive environment. The aim is for learners to have mastered both the manual and automatic methods of recording BP.
