Shoot Baseball and Soccer in Northern California

Join us for a weekend offering the best of both worlds: the action of a Major league baseball game AND the opportunity to shoot at a Major league soccer game AND learn about studio lighting during a portrait session for athletes.

During this workshop, attendees are given access to shoot from the photo positions and the backstop beside home plate during an Oakland A’s game at the O.co coliseum. Before the game, A’s team photographer Michael Zagaris and acclaimed baseball photographer Brad Mangin will give the class tips on shooting baseball in the O.co coliseum.  We also have a great opportunity to photograph Major League Soccer teams San Jose Earthquakes vs Toronto FC!

When we are not capturing the action on the field, we will be working to learn how to shape light in difficult spaces, which is critical to creating exceptional images and photograph athlete portraits.

We will also be learning about timing, depth of field, isolating the subject, focus, and composition. Each day Peter will personally critique your work during a group review, so that you leave the workshop with a better understanding of how to turn good images into outstanding ones.

What you will learn:

    • Techniques to capture action
    • How to use lighting and different angles for shooting various sports
    • Portrait lighting with strobes
    • How to set-up and use remote cameras
    • The power of cropping & editing images to make them magazine cover worthy
    • How to choose the best lenses for sports photography

What to bring:

Please bring your favorite camera, together with any lenses you want to use (both wide angle and telephoto), plenty of charged battery packs, memory cards, a monopod and a laptop computer to download and edit images.

Skill level:

An understanding of your camera operations including using manual mode, aperture, shutter speed and ISO.  This workshop is for intermediate and advanced photographers.
