Placement learning has distinct advantages for our learners, encouraging deep learning, the linking of theory to practice, and the development and nurturing of abilities. However, the administration of the verification of such learning is time-consuming and resource-intensive.
In this workshop, we discuss the processes of verifying learning outwith QMU and consider how other institutions have addressed this digitally. Debbie Holmes from PebblePad will facilitate this workshop presenting two case studies. The first is from the medical school of the University of Liverpool, where PebblePocket, forms and digital signatures are used to assess students in practice.
The second study is from Sheffield Hallam. Andrew Kirke, in paramedic practice, who will discuss the management of OSCEs, which have been streamlined, enabling students to be assessed outside of the University in their placement areas. Finally, we will consider if PebblePad could provide a robust way forward for the verification of placement learning which is easier for our learners on placement and quicker, more effective for us.
