Workshop  Description:

This 1.5 Hour workshop focuses on situations where many LEP patients have suffered negative outcomes due to their lack of understanding of the severity of their cases, and also due to their social and economic status. Participants will also learn about real life cases where the interpreters' role is crucial to the outcome. 

This workshop is for professionals who have completed a Medical Interpreter Training Course.

Regular Fee: $30.00

CEU Fee (for nationally certified medical interpreters): an additional $30.00 that includes course materials, CEU certificate of completion). Credits/Contact Hours: 1.5 CEU hours for CCHI and 0.15 for IMIA/NBCMI

Refunds: MV AHEC does not provide refunds after 10 full calendar days prior to the date of the workshop.

Education Level: This workshop is for professionals who have completed a Medical Interpreter Training Course; Intermediate to Advanced

Certificates & Completion Requirements: Participants are expected to sign-in and out, attend the entire workshop, and complete an evaluation. The CEU certificate will be mailed to participants 6 to 8 weeks following the program. A Merrimack Valley AHEC certificate of attendance will also be provided to all participants upon completion of the workshop.

Program Learning Objectives:

Medical interpreters participating in this training will be able to:

1)Become familiar with different types of transplant (kidney, heart, lung., etc.); 

2)Review the complex process of organ donation and transplant, including appointments, medications, habits, and life-changing commitment;

3)Review of the waiting list system.


About the Trainer:

Mr. Wilson Pedrazas, BA, MM, CMI, is a Certified Medical Interpreter with over ten years of experience working as a trilingual interpreter at Mass General Hospital (MGH). At MGH, he is responsible for face-to-face interpretation for consultations, family meetings and navigating patients visits. Wilson works closely with MGH International Patient Office in assisting overseas patients. He assists end of life and palliative care patients by providing competent and compassionate support. Wilson is also a classically trained concert violinist and performed throughout Latin America, Europe, and the USA. He is a former member of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra and Glimmerglass Opera of New York. Currently, he divides his time between medical interpreting and performing as a member of the Portland Symphony Orchestra and Boston Ballet.
