Opening Statements & Closing Arguments

 

The United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island, in partnership with the Roger Williams University School of Law, and the Rhode Island Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, is proud to announce the fourth program in its Litigation Academy.   

 

The program will take place at the federal courthouse and will provide twelve hours of hands-on training and lectures spread over four days, starting Monday, May 2, 2016, and ending on Friday, May 6, 2016. The program provides participants with an opportunity to improve their trial skills in opening statements and closing arguments. 12 CLE credits will be available, including 1 ethics credit. 

 

The schedule for the program is as follows:

 

Monday, May 2: 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Lectures and Demonstration

Tuesday, May 3: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Lectures and Demonstration (reception to follow)

Thursday, May 5: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Practice Sessions

Friday, May 6: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Presentation of Openings & Closings

 

The cost of the program is $400 (including course materials). 

 

Payment is required upon registration via credit card or PayPal. If you have any questions regarding payment or payment options, please contact Lisa Quartino at lisa_quartino@rid.uscourts.gov. Registrations cancelled no later than Monday April 25, 2016, will receive a full refund.  After that date, no refunds will be made.  Some partial scholarships are available based on financial hardship from the Rhode Island Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.  

 

If you would like to apply for scholarship funding, please first contact the FBA at rratcliffe@rhbglaw.com with a brief description of the nature of your law practice and a request to be considered for a scholarship. If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be provided with a special code which should be used when you register for the program.
