Prerequisite: Mediation Skills and Process (Federal Workplace Focus)
This workshop provides mediators an intensive highly-interactive experience to reinforce and build their mediation skills. It is designed to be a bridge from the classroom to the hands-on practice of mediation for those who have recently completed basic training as well as a refresher for those already practicing. Participants will engage in practice activities designed to deepen their understanding of the process.

Instructor bios:
James R. Meditz, MA
Jim Meditz is a Supreme Court of Virginia certified mentor mediator. He also provides services as a facilitator, instructor/trainer, consultant, and conflict management coach for diverse clients, including cases before Virginia courts; parties in employment and EEO disputes, and commercial and community entities. He is a current member and past president of the Virginia Mediation Network (VMN), and an Associate Member of the American Bar Association and Dispute Resolution Section. In addition to the Northern Virginia Mediation Service, he is on the rosters of colleagues’ organizations and federal agencies. Mr. Meditz has a Master of Arts in International Relations, Boston University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He is a graduate of the National War College, (National Defense University, Washington, DC) and the Federal Executive Institute (Charlottesville, VA). He received special training in Problem Solving in Organizations, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and EEO matters, family business issues, conflict coaching, and in management and other subjects during his federal career.
Catherine Baker-Wingfield, JD
Catherine Baker-Wingfield has been a mediator for eight years, focused primarily on small claims cases heard in the Arlington General District Court. She has been a mentor with NVMS for four years and now co-teaches the Practicum class. When not mediating, Catherine is a principal at EMR Content + Communications, a Washington D.C. public affairs consultancy. She is also an adjunct professor with Johns Hopkins University, teaching opinion writing within the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences MA program. Prior to joining EMR, Catherine served as a senior trial and appellate attorney with the US Department of Justice Criminal Division. She has also served as a law clerk with the US Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and worked as an associate with Theodore Goddard (now Addleshaw Goddard) a corporate law firm in London. Catherine has an LL.M. in International Law from the Georgetown University Law Center.
